How to Pull Off Prints With Prints

Dressing well has everything to do with finding new ways to combine the components of your wardrobe. Each new piece you buy sets up dozens of possibilities. Nowhere is this more important than with shirts and ties. But you're going to have to learn some basic rules.

Match your colors. Make sure your shirt and tie share a common color. A word of caution: Beware the monochromatic look. While you want there to be some of the same color in both, the exact color is not recommended. When starting out, just be sure there are similar tones in both the tie and the shirt .

Balance patterns: The easy rule of thumb is to use striped ties to offset patterned shirts and printed

ties (make sure the print is a different scale) to offset stripes. Dots go with everything

Pattern mixing is allowed. When you feel up to it, try a

striped with a striped shirt. Just make sure the stripes are different sizes. Avoid this look when a pinstripe suit. A common color theme is wise here but not necessary. The same rules apply for patterns and checks. Busy isn't bad, but you don.t want to get crazy here. Too much activity may cause seizures.
